Reached at its fourth edition, the Sibiu Innovation Days 2023 conference is already an important landmark on the innovation map in Romania, playing an important role in the development of collaborative networks between specialists from industry, public administration and the academic research community. Sibiu Innovation Days 2023 continues the previously successful editions (2020, 2021 and 2022) promoting the development of an innovation ecosystem in the Transylvania area, built around the Cluj IT cluster with impact in shaping the economic and social vitality of the entire region.
Starting this year, the organizing team is extended. Beside the primary collaborators Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, (through Hasso-Plattner Knowledge Transfer Institute) and Cluj IT Cluster this year we collaborate also with the newly created Sibiu IT association. Sibiu Innovation Days 2023 conference will be held during October 05th and 06th 2023.
The format of the event will include four sections:
Despite sustained efforts and quantifiable results in the direction of digitalization and innovation at the governmental level (Ghiseul.ro, criminal record available online, the law prohibiting the File with metallic saddle), unfortunately in the European Innovation Scoreboard 2022, Romania is ranked on the last place. Although it fluctuated a lot with decreases between 2015 and 2018 and increases between 2018 and 2021, again decreasing in 2022, Romania's innovation performance is at the level of 2015. The easy of starting a business, entrepreneurial training and government procurement are below the EU average. The weaknesses aims mainly the lack of population with tertiary education (PhD), lack of business process innovators, less innovative SMEs, lack of non-R&D innovation expenditures, lack of knowledge and of good practices related to circular economy and environmental innovation. In this sense, we consider that no effort is useless for increasing Romania's innovation performance and, by the activities developed at Sibiu Innovation Days 2023, we try to tackle and provide solutions to some of these challenges.
During the two days of the conference we will be exploring, with the guidance and expertise of our invited speakers hot topics, challenges and risks like Cybersecurity, Circular economy & Sustainable development, Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, Innovative Partnerships, Smart Health, Jobs, Skills & Education of the future, Artificial Intelligence, all these applied in the process of digital transformation and how can help our community of students, researchers, business and decision makers to add value to their projects, initiatives and day to day activities.
The event is looking to strengthen the collaboration among all these stakeholders, while also improving the way in which we understand and use the innovative services available in Transylvania and in the Sibiu region. The conference activities will emphasize current research and development concerns of companies active in the area, as well as create new opportunities for collaboration among participants active in a wide array of industries and fields. While highlighting contributions from Hasso-Plattner Knowledge Transfer Institute, active in “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, to the development of the local innovation ecosystem, the conference represents an important component in consolidating Sibiu City's position as an emerging innovation center.
